How Is Your Life Today?

- Having a slight hangover
- Listening to old Black Sabbath and old Black Sabbath only
- Writing a crappy essay about something that doesn't even interest myself
- Wanting desperately watch the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica instead
- Wondering how on earth is it possible to have lost all of my basic tank tops during the summer
-Trying to talk about politics and journalism with everyone, who chooses to listen.
...That would be my stuffed animals.

How is your life today?

It Was Fun As Long As It Lasted

Here's an outfit I didn't publish earlier this week because of my silly expression.
It was taken on tuesday, when we still had snow on the ground. Now that the temperature has risen outside we have only slush.
A helpful tip - never visit Finland in october or november.

By the way someone of you needs to get this dress:

Or otherwise I will.
And it's not even my size!

New Dress and Hair Issues

The postman brought me a dress today.
A dress that I ordered about six weeks ago, but got lost in the mail.
Better late than never, besides - I think this one was worth the wait.

edit. Since some of you asked. The dress is vintage and bought from the lovely eBay seller Magnolia Family Vintage

As you can probably see from those pictures, my hair has gotten ridiculously overgrown. I've been meaning to visit the hairdresser's for a while now, but been undecided of what needs to be done there.

I'm one of those people who needs a drastic change every time they go, since otherwise there's no sense to actually pay for the haircut. (Yeah no logic here, I admit it.)

So, here's what I did last time:

New hair --> old hair (picture by Honey Junkie)

And here's what I'm thinking of doing:

Without the bangs, though.
I couldn't find a picture of what Amélie's hair looks like from the back, but it's much much shorter than mine.
And I like it how the longer hair on the front gives the possibilty to do different things with your hair. (If I could actually do my hair that is.)

..I'd be completely happy if the hairdresser could implant me Audrey Tautou's face while she's at it.

The Fashionist

photos taken from the fashionist

Even though I thought I followed every single street style site that's out there, The Fashionist is a completely new acquaintance for me. But after seeing these pictures it skyrocketed it's way into my bookmarks.

On the sidenote - that second girl is the same one, who was wearing a gorgeous polka dot dress in my Beyond Retro-post. I wonder if there's a way to bribe / force her to start a blog of her own?

P.S. I've been trying to pimp our store's Myspace today. You can find some new A/W Lookbook-pictures from our Myspace albums, so feel free to add us as friends!

Tell Me a Story Vintage A/W 2008

We've been shooting our new Tell Me a Story autumn/winter lookbookwith the lovely and talented photographer Satu Kemppainen on two different occasions. (Both outdoors and in a studio.)

Here's a preview of our first session with me looking short and uncomfortable and Anna-Maria looking natural and graceful.

I Hate the Finnish Winter

Taking pictures indoors is horrid.
At least when it's dark and you're too lazy to alter you camera settings.
But here we go:

And Blair, even though you've been losing your edge lately - I still want to marry you and have your child.

Style Bytes Website re-opened

The legendary stylebytes.net has been re-opened after a couple of month's absence. I don't know if Agathe's going to start blogging again, but at least you can dig through her archives for some of the greatest entries in fashion blog history.

Vintage eBay Picks of the Day

It's been raining the whole evening, so I've had nothing better to do than sitting my face glued to the virtual vintage heaven.
(Of course I could write my essays, but I figured that one exam is enough academic work for the day. Besides, eBay is much more entertaining.)

Fracked up weather like this calls for dark colours, here's some of my favourites.

(It's not a major seller, so the buy it now price is a whooping 18.5 dollars. If this one is even close to your size, get it.)

I'm Whyred

I've been a fan of the Swedish brand Whyred for some time now.
Their clothes are amazingly well cut, the models are simple but still have an unique touch about them. And the garments naturally cost a small fortune.

Or they did, until Whyred Online Outlet was opened a couple of weeks ago. From the outlet you can find pieces from the current and previous collections for a fraction of the original price tag.
Okay, the prices may not be that student friendly there either, but I'd say there's a chance to make some real bargains. At least considering the fact that the garments are independent scandinavian design and with the proper care the pieces you get are very likely to last you a lifetime.

Scandinavian Minimalism Found

This time around I managed not to stick on anything extra.
(If lipstick doesn't count that is.)

Phew, as fun as this was I think I'm going to put on something frilly tomorrow. For my exams. That's one hell of a way to spend your saturday.

P.S. It's getting colder. In a couple of weeks it'll be cold enough for my freaky cape coat. Finally.

A Girl Can Dream

Another thing is what I would actually do with a 570 euro cocktail dress.
(Probably wear it for the rest of my days.)

But dreams aren't supposed to be rational, right?

So basically what I need is cozy knits and scarves. Some fine weather wouldn't hurt either, but I guess I can't expect any untill next march.

But I did get myself a pair of jeans.
Me. With jeans. I'm pretty sure hell just froze over.

Scandinavian Minimalism Lost

Anna-Maria wrote a great post about the sudden urge to Swedify yourself after returning from Stockholm. There's something seriously inspiring about the casual chicness of the Swedes, even though they tend to resemble each other quite a bit.

The people I saw in Stockholm got me really excited about Scandivian minimalism, well-cut clothes and simple colour schemes.
But the inconvenient truth is that every time I try to dress myself that way I feel a sudden need to stick on a funny hat. Preferably with a bow.

coat: thrifted (originally from H&M)
shoes: Vagabond

I guess you can't teach a vintage lover new tricks.
But I actually did get some new, black well-cut pieces of clothing.
(In which I'll be probably sticking grannyish brooches in the near future.)

P.S. I'll be posting a lot more about Sweden's lovely capital next week.

Elections 2008

This is not a political blog, nor it's going to become one.
But I'm going to spend rest of the night my face glued to the screen waiting for the outcome, since it's going to affect us dwellers of Europe as well.
(And for some reason Head Like a Hole by Nine Inch Nails has been ringing in my head all day long - just like four years ago.)

edit. Phew, it was an exciting night.
Great thanks to all American voters for making history.
(And most of all for sending that Palin woman back to Alaska.)

Beyond Fantastic

Phew, I've finally returned from Stockholm and what a trip it was!
I feel like I have so much to blog about and I figured to start from the obvious - my favourite place to shop in the city.

Beyond Retro is a lovely chain specialized in vintage and second hand clothing. The first store was opened in 2000 to London and after that Beyond Retro conquered Stockholm with three different stores.

Stockholm's biggest Beyond Retro store is located at Mäster Samuelsgatan 56, which is basically in the middle of the city center. It's as huge as 6,000sq ft, so you really have to take your time digging through the items in order to find something that's "you". Luckily the clothes arranged by type, colour and time perioid which makes navigating through the wares a lot easier.
My personal favourite is the somewhat smaller store in Åsögatan 144, since you feel more in control of the space there.

The prices of the vintage pieces vary on the basis of their age and condition. For example a 1950's dress can cost anything between 350 and 1800 Swedish crowns and you can score a pair of heels for 200-500 crowns.
The price tags state "Bought as seen", but I'd suggest pointing out the garment's flaws at the counter anyways since some of the delicate pieces may have taken damage after they've been priced.

For me the Beyond Retro stores alone are reason enough to sail accross the bay to Stockholm.
Even though you can expect to pay somewhat more from the pieces than in goodwills, but the gems of their huge selection really make it worth it.
