I was blown away by the decadent harlequin dresses, but the pieces the collection made me covet the most were actually quite simple - a white detachable lace collar and a high-waisted red skirt.

The first one can be easily hunt down from thrift stores, but I've been having serious troubles finding the latter one.
Lately I've been seeing the perfect red skirts on some of my favourite bloggers, like Selina from The Flying Saucer and Camille of Childhood Flames.

The problem is that both of these talented ladies have sewn their own skirts.
I'm under the impression that making a skirt like that is fairly easy, but I'm totally useless when it comes to manufacturing garments (I have a long history of breaking sewing machines simply by touching them).
So, I was wondering if some of you would know any independent seamstresses making or whom I could comission to make a similar skirt?
Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated!
I'm getting the skirt made for me from thrifted fabric by the lovely Sally Jane.
Thank you all again. You're fabulous.

hihi I also did a little skirt like this...but in green! if you want to see : http://agathinemagfazion.blogspot.com/2008/03/home-sweet-home.html
and in deed, it's very easy and you can help yourself with the little "marche-à-suivre" of childhood flame : http://childhoodflames.blogspot.com/2008/03/puff-skirts-do-it-yourself.html
try it!
ps: i love your blog
agathine: You're skirt looks amazing! Great job. :)
And thanks for the diy-link. I checked it out, but sadly I'm really not skillful enough to do even that. :(
Kun asuisit Helsingissä niin voisin tehdä sinulle hameen :)
Jos sinulla on käyntiä täällä etkä saa muualta hametta niin kerro, niin katsotaan mitä voidaan tehdä :)

Hi! It just so happens that I bought a huge red dress at the thrift store this week with intentions to cut it up and use the fabric to make a skirt. I'm sure they'll be enough fabric to make two. It'll just be a simple gathered skirt with an elastic waistband. Nothing fancy. If you email me with some measurements, I can make one for you too. I just need to know your waist measurement and how long you want the skirt. (sallyjanevintage@yahoo.com)
Let me know! :)
Juuri tuollainen hame on seuraavana loputtomalla projekti-listallani :) Ollut oikeastaan jo pitkään, kunhan joku taikoisi jostain lisää aikaa...
Well, you could certainly comission me to make you such a skirt! I make a lot of my own clothes and this looks like something simple that I'd be happy to make. It might take a couple of weeks though as I'm away on holiday next week, but if you let me know soon I could even buy the fabric tomorrow. I don't have an Etsy shop as I don't have a credit card, but you can see things I've made on my blog http://magic-fingers.blogspot.com. I live in England; send me an e-mail if you like, nushbush(at)gmail.com
Oh, rakastan sun takkiasi! Tyylikäs! Näytät upealta:)
i loved it on Childhood flames one when i first saw it! i too am mostly sewing challenged so i guess i shall have to keep trying to thrift mine!
I was gonna say, that I could have made you one easily but thats great youre getting one from Sally Jane! :)
I think the tutorial agathine posted looks really complicated considering how utterly easy this project is. YES, I am 120% sure you could do this, but I actually would recommend taking a class. They probably have ones at the local adult education centre (työväenopisto). You don't have to know ANYTHING to go there :) and you can ask for advice at any point of the process. Just an idea for later to consider!
Selina is relentlessly adorable. Love her tights especially.
I love your blog! I just found it through NEET magazine and am very happy I did! Best, Anna
That skirt is lovely--you're very lucky to be getting one soon too! I feel American Apparel has a similar style as we...
Mistä pirusta noita pitsikauluksia oikein löytyy? Olen mielestäni kolunnut jo kaikki Tampereen kirpparit ja second hand -kaupat, mutta no luck..
that is the exact type of skirt I want! Gorgeous.
